Mr Green the Gecko says ...

“Build a Dam!”
I have been busy planting lots of fruit trees of late. It is a good idea to create a makeshift dam around your tree so that when you water it the water can soak in around the roots, instead of down the hill or away from the tree.

MEETING TONIGHT
The next meeting is tonight in the school library. See you at 7pm. 

CHOOK AND GARDEN CARE OVER SUMMER BREAK
Have you even wondered what it would be like to have chooks? Always wanted to try but never got around to it? We need families to volunteer to look after the girls over the summer break. We know many of you have been interested in minding the chooks during the holidays and here is another opportunity.
We organise everything for you, delivery of the chooks, their house and their food etc… all you have to do is care for them and enjoy their delicious fresh eggs.
We also need volunteers to water the garden during the holidays for a week at a time. Any produce ready to pick will be yours!
The kids would love it! If you can help, let Rhonda French know on 0414 307 352.

FRIENDS OF THE GARDEN END OF YEAR CELEBRATION
It was lovely to relax with all the volunteers at Crosslands at the weekend. Thanks again everyone for your hard work this year.

THE GARDEN CLUB
The Year 4 Garden Club is underway with a new group of year four students. Each Monday they are helping to create some wonderful ornaments which will eventually be on show in the garden. Won’t they be proud when they see what they have made?! Mosaic bees, snails, lizards, just to name a few…

FRIENDS OF THE GARDEN END OF YEAR CELEBRATION

We are going to kick back with some food and beverages on the 12th of November to celebrate a great year in the garden. Have you taken part in making the garden what it is today? Whether you have mastered the act of digging, had the chooks, fed the punters at Bunnings, cut mosaic tiles or helped in any other way... please come along for a picnic at Crosslands. Have a chat to someone in the garden team for details.

A GREAT BUSY BEE

We had another productive and rewarding weekend in the garden. The rest of the fruit tress are in, the swale has been expanded, the chook fence mended and excellent progress made with the irrigation work. Thanks to everyone once again. It has been a huge year and so much hard work has gone into making the garden look how it does today.

HARVEST TIME FUN TIME

Mrs Baker’s class had a wonderful harvest yesterday. The kids walked away with big smiles and handfuls of spinach, lettuce, beetroot and little carrots!

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting is on November 15 in the school library. See you at 7pm.

Mr Green the gecko says...

“Mulch!”

As the days get warmer it becomes even more important to mulch your garden. I am a fan of sugar cane mulch which breaks down and feeds the plants, all the while keeping them moist. Just make sure the mulch does not touch the stem of the plants you are mulching. They don’t like it!

Mr Green the gecko says...

“Save Your Seeds!”
You don’t have to go to the nursery to grow your own plants. Save your vege and fruit seeds in an old egg carton. You can sort them into sections, let them dry out and then plant in your garden or in a little jiffy pot and sit them on your window sill until they germinate. Let them grow a little bit and then transplant them outside somewhere. Good luck!

CHOOK HOLIDAY
The chooks had a great holiday at the Hose’s house. Thanks to Belinda and her boys for doing such a wonderful job of looking after the girls. Three eggs a day. What a treat!

DIG, DIG, DIGGING
No garden would be a success without lots of digging. Well, a few of us stalwarts were here in the holidays digging trenches for drainage and irrigation. It should work a treat. Thanks, thanks and thanks for all your muscle and hard work!

NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting is on Tuesday October 18 at 7pm in the library. All welcome!
