Newsletter: Term 4, Week 4

McCAIN’S GOODIES
Thanks to everyone who brought in their McCain barcodes for the School Vege Promotion. We have been able to purchase a bird net to protect the fruit trees which will go into the garden next year, a watering can and some gloves.

KINDY TATERS
Hi Kindy mums and dads. Have a look at your children’s potato patch around near the bike racks. We planted them in some time ago and will harvest them some time this term. Please enjoy them with your kids when we send them home.

NEXT MEETING
We meet again in the library from 7pm on Wednesday, November 10. All welcome.

“Holiday Haircuts”

Plants love a haircut. Ask mum or dad which plants you can trim back. If any have disease or scale on them, be careful to wash your secateurs in some tea tree oil to kill the nasties and stop the spread of them to other plants.

Crunch-n-Sip Celebration!
Thanks to a $50 voucher from Harris Farm and the enthusiasm all our students have for fresh produce, we are going to have a super celebration on Thursday. Each class will get their own platter to share as part of the school’s inaugural Crunch-n-Sip Celebration.

Go the Year 1s!
Thanks to Mrs Stokes and Mrs Mamo and all their year one students. They spent yesterday putting together all the Pot Luck pots for the Eco Food Garden’s fete stall. Come and grab a pot on the day. Who knows what you might be taking home?!

McCain School Vegie Patch Promotion
Don't forget to bring in your barcodes from McCain Frozen Vegetable and Purely Potato packs and put them in the box at the front office. We have until October 31 to redeem them for gardening equipment. Thanks everyone!

“Pesky Possums”
Are possums eating your garden goodies? Try making a spray mixture out of boiled chillies or you can add some tabasco sauce to some fish sauce and spray that on your plants. Make sure you wash your produce before eating it yourself!

NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting is tonight (Tuesday the 14th) at 7pm in the school library. We are going to amend our design to take into account the new site size and also plan some great activities for the fete. Come along. It’ll be fun!

Mr Green the gecko says ...

Make a water feature
A water feature with a small amount of mud encourages predators such as dragon flies and frogs, helping keep garden pests to a minimum.
